dirtwarrior Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 I got a file which is a multi-part rar. When I try to unrar it goes to about 88% and I get error message saying fat32 only supports up to 4 gb. Unrared size of this is about 4.5 gb.I am running xp with fat32. HD is 160 gb. 1024 mb ram.Is there a way to unrar this in fat32? If not can I convert to NTFS without loosing anything?
albator Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 You should not use fat32 on such large drive. The limitation of fat 32 is not bypassable. You will need to convert it to ntfs, on my experience doign so on a second partition never let me down, I never loose any data. I had never try my bootable partition, but I suppose it work too.
dirtwarrior Posted November 28, 2005 Author Posted November 28, 2005 Thank youIs there a way to convert my drive from fat32 to NTFS without loosing data or reinstalling windows?
Kelsenellenelvian Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Now use the Windows XP convert tool: Go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt (or, from a Run box, type CMD) and, assuming you intend to convert C:, give the command:VOL C:Note the name of the disk in the first line, and the Volume Serial Number (for example, 3F4E-2D1B) in the second. Then type:CONVERT C: /FS:NTFSIt will ask for that name in confirmation. Then it will ask two further questions. Reply Y each time to set up conversion
