flyqueen843 Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 I'm a newbie and not too techy at that. My new computer with preinstalled WindowsXP Home Edition will not hold desktop with icons. Upon startup or restart the desktop is there for a few seconds then McAffee pops up and then screen goes to blank desktop. The only way I can access programs is through Ctrl/Alt/Delete procedure. Help appreciated.
Jeremy Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Sounds like explorer.exe doesn't load. CHeck for it under "Processes" in Task Manager. If it isn't there, browse to C:\WINDOWS\ (via the File > New Task) to check. If it isn't there, then it was either deleted by someone or you possibly have a virus infection.Let us know.
