Prevent file copying

You could just make a link to the file on the desktop or start menu. Most users aren't smart enough to type in the server address and share in the browser. If this is not the case let me know and I'll look into it.

Also what server environment are you running???? 2k, 2003?

Different policies can be set in different versions so let me know.

Good luck

I don't think you can do that.

Whenever a file is opened it gets copied into memory of the local machine to be worked on.

It's not possible to tell the difference between 'OPEN' and 'COPY' functions.

Even the permissions lump 'READ and EXECUTE' together so ya can't do it that way either.

Your method may work but user is clever enough to see the link's properties. Is the policy capable to prevent user copying? Many thanks. The server is 2003. Please advise.

I'll look into it tomorrow. It's 1:47AM where I live and I need to try and sleep. I remember there was a way to hide the link proporties on a client machine. I'll look for that as well. Until then good luck and keep me posted of any updates as of yet.

P.S. Quick thought. Have you looked into disk quota? There might be some info there.
