Brave Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Hello,I have a small network with 6 computers, and one of them is a file-sharing server. All the computers have WinXP Home Edition. I notice that when the 6 computer try to establish a file-sharing session, it gives a error message saying that the server reached the maximum allowed sessions. I google a little and i found this: - Windows XP Professional : 10 simultaneous file-sharing connections( same limitation as in Windows NT4 workstation and Windows 2000 Professional )- Windows XP Home Edition : 5 simultaneous file-sharing connections( Windows 95,98, ME do not have a known limit of simultaneous file-sharing connections )Anyone knows a way to get through this ? some patch? some registry key ? something ? Need help please !! Thx Brave
Sonic Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 You cant' change limit (it's hardcoded for the moment), just windows 98 has a unknow limit ...
cluberti Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 To get more than 5 or 10 connections (XP Home or Pro), you need to upgrade to a server-class edition of the product. If this network isn't going to grow past 40 or 50 users anytime soon, consider Microsoft Small Business Server - it's not very expensive (at least the Standard edition), and it does come with Exchange.
