Duplicate programs

I'm running Win XP Pro (SP2) Ver 2002 on a Pentium 4 CPU w/ 1 GB RAM with 2 x 80 Gig hard drives C & D. Operating system on C, data on D. Using Diskeeper Professional defragmenter and Kaspersky Antivirus Suite. No viruses detected.

Recently, for some reason, when I go to "All Programs" "Accessories" "Communications" I find that the following have all been duplicated in the drop down box - Hyperterminal, Network Connections, Network Setup Wizard, Remote Desktop Connections, Wireless Network Setup. For example I have Hyperterminal + Hyperterminal (2) etc.

Duplications of other installed programs have also occured (which I deleted without adverse effects). Has anyone else experienced this phenomena?
