What exactly does this entry do? Anyone using it?

Did I understand correctly that if it is set to "No", during setup the installation will automaticly try connect to WU and silently download and install any available hotfixes?

When and how is this done?

It doesn't do anything when it is in a winnt.sif file. If the line is in an unattend.txt file and you start setup from Windows it will check for update during the Windows based "text mode" portion of setup.

war59312, The question is: When and how is this done?

Which isnt answered by that page.

Bezalel's reply is more fitting, would be nice if he/she quoted a source.

I knew what it does... I have read the documentation.

as Shark007 explains my question is; (sorry if unprecise) at what point of installation does it connect to WU to check for updates, and how are they installed? (any GUI?/what updates are downloaded? hotfixes/critical updates etc..).

-Seems though that it only applies when you run setup from Windows.

The DU only checks when you've got network access during the setup process - meaning that unless you run winnt32.exe or setup.exe to upgrade Windows from within another running version of Windows, DU is not run and this setting is not needed.

The only time you'd see DU run during an unattended clean setup is if you install the recovery console - but the /dudisable switch when installing the console (winnt32 /cmdcons /unattend /dudisable) will disable that update check as well.
