Software To Test The System

Question: Does any know of software that will run continuously and excercise the processor and motherboard in a testing mode?

Background: I have a mb/cpu (Shuttle A12A/AMD Athalon 1.1GHz) that was abandoned because a friend had periodic system freeze ups and got frustrated. There were also problems with the video card--it had to be glued into the AGP socket to make it connect properly. (don't laugh, it sorta worked with hot melt glue)

I now have a PCI video card to avoid the AGP socket entirely, and everything else, like memory, power supply and hard drive, is also changed out. But before I declare victory I want to test the system. The old problem was very intermittent and unpredictable, so it needs a good test and workout.
