i'm currently using windows XP ( removed some components via nLite )

accidentally i've removed something i need:

the remote desktop client

and therefore i went on the net and found this:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...rdclientdl.mspx

however after i downloaded it and run,

it says that "my windows has built in version and installation will stop."

is there anyway that i can avoid this happen

and force the installation to run til it ends?

(i'm tired to re-install XP again.. )

I don't think so...that's the danger of nlite. I like it, but it's takes a lot of testing. The file you are downloading is nothing more than a client, not the actual Remote Desktop application that runs on WinXP.

Had that happen, but only in Home Edition. And I don't think it has anything to do with nLite. I tried on Home vanilla and it didn't even have Remote Desktop, I downloaded and installed that client thing and it said it was already built-in, which is a load of crap. If you truly want RDC, use Pro. I love Remote Desktop. I use it at college. But the thing is, since you remotely log into your own PC from another PC, it's essentially the user account, so if someone else is on the PC and you RD, you kick them right off and force them to re-enter the username and password of that user account. If they happen to know it, they can terminate your RD connection. I'm just telling you this incase you've never actually done it before and want to. By the way, just so you know, however means you go about acquiring a copy of Pro and still want to use nLite, the only thing you need to keep to have RDC is the Terminal Services. Have fun. Need more help? PM me.

@InTheWayBoy, nLite is of no danger, it's how inexperienced and unaware the user is. I have done trial and error so many freakin' times with nLite, I know exactly what I can keep and toss. If a file I need is in a component I remove, I just put the filename in the Keep Box. There goes the component, there stays that one file I need. XPLite used to be dangerous, resulting in at least a dozen random errors that the site provided no knowledge of. They've updated several times since I last used it, so hopefully they've smartened up. In no way does XPLite even compare to nLite, though. nLite is far beyond XPLite in pretty much every way. To make a long story short, of course newbs will blame hardware and software issues on nLite if they remove 99% of the components with nLite. I know lots of stuff in there can be pretty specific. They have to know what they are doing! If they do, like I do, it is sooo worth it.

I have 60+ programs on my FTP and the only one that complains from something removed by nLite is MS Office. It complains of missing ODBC files. It will give 5 seperate error messages during installation, but you can ignore them and still the applications.

I surf the net, view streaming media, watch videos/movies, encode stuff once and a while, chat, game, listen to music, defragment, etc... and the only things I didn't remove in nLite were :

componentskept1zs.png

If this is too big, mods please change to link, I'll remember it for next time when dealing with images of relative size.
