Sli-Boi Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Hey guys, i just recently bought a second IDE hard drive (160GB) to allocate and store all my music files..And currently use my main SATA drive for my operating system (XP)Now it sounds really stoopid, but do i need to setup the 2nd drive through BIOS to access the drive? xp added the hardware and detects it on Device Manager, but it doesnt show up on My Computer..I am only new to the setup so i am really clueless on how to access this drive..lmaoAny help please would be much appreciated!
K e n Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 (edited) You will need to partition it 1st before any Windows OS will see it inmy computer, when you have partitioned it just boot back into Windows& format it from there...I have a Partition Magic boot-disk if you can't find one to do the job.I'd post a link to it here if need... lmk...Asv far as setting it up in the bios goes, you may need to, but mostbios's these days are set to auto detect, it would'nt hurt to boot intothe bios just to confirm it did find it though, unless you can see it onthe post screen... Sli-Boi Posted November 3, 2005 Author Posted November 3, 2005 Thanks for the quick reply Can i just use the XP install disc to create a partition instead? Will that still work?
albator Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Thanks for the quick reply Can i just use the XP install disc to create a partition instead? Will that still work?I dont think so, You should get a reel partition/formating tools like Acronis disk director. If your HD is detected in the bios it should be easy to format it.
