467312 Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 (edited) I installed winxp on my sata raid controller (asus p4pe, fasttrack 376raid controller) hard disk. Then I proceed to install windows vista on a seperate pide hard drive and now i can't boot to winxp (there is no option). So i reinstalled winxp on the hard drive that vista was on. I figured that might fix it but it didn't. Now, I want to boot to my sata windows, how do I do that?I figure I need to update my boot.ini file but am not sure which options to change so here is it, I added the last line.[boot loader]timeout=30default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.0[operating systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.0="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetectmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows SATA what should i put here" /noexecute=optin /fastdetectOH yeah, windows xp on the pide is C:/ sata is D:/. I am a noob but I noticed D:/ has no boot.ini or other hidden files like ndetect. Is it supposed to be like this?edit: i used recovery console to rebuild my boot.ini and the pide winxp boots, but the sata winxp still does not. Gonna unplug my pide hdd and see what happens. It now looks like[boot loader]timeout=30default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.0[operating systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.0="pide winxp" multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows="sata winxp" multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.0="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetectmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows SATA" /noexecute=optin /fastdetectC:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdconsedit 2: i unplugged my ide drive and sata winxp booted fine. So,... back to hunting on google. I wonder if I make the sata drive c: will that make it better. Edited November 3, 2005 by 467312
Shark007 Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 I use separate HD's with diff OS's.Here is my boot.ini[boot loader]timeout=30default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS[operating systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP on SATA" /noexecute=optin /fastdetectmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows Server on PATA" /noexecute=optin /fastdetectIn the above example, 'C' Drive is SATA and 'D' Drive is PATAshark
