Please Help me !!

I have one 80GB IBM ATA 7200 RPM HD Drive !!!

Yesterday i got a 40GB IBM ATA 5400RPM HD Drive from my friend he said i can have it because he bought 400 gb SATA !!!

And i was wondering if i would connect second hard disk drive (40GB 5400rpm) to my computer as slave would it slow down the faster (80GB 7200rpm) hard drive ?????

Are there any good programs (benchmarks) that i could run and see if there is any diffrence if i connect second HDD ?

Thanx Tine

If they have the same ATA type then it should be fine although access to that slower slave drive will obviously be a little slower but for a free drive it's nothing bad. It used to be that different ATA drives shouldn't be on the same IDE cable. I don't know if this is still true.

As for checking out the impact of the new hard drive on performance you can use a program like HD_Speed. From the website:

Measures both sustained and burst data transfer rates of your hard disks, cd/dvd-roms and floppy. Realtime graphical display.
