breadandbubbles Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 i spent a few days networking my house, running cat5 cables all over and all of them lead to my bedroom, and my computer there. as of right now mine is the only computer running off this router, and it is hokked up to it with a 3ft. cable. im running windows XP Pro. NOD32, Zonealarm, Norton Antivirus, and usually Firefox.its took 29 minutes to load google using Internet Explorer. i cant run anything. im at my neighbours house to post this topic because it would take me days to get here via my pc.so WHY IS EVERYTHING SO SLOW!!!!? is wasnt before the router? now it IS!!! oh, its a D-604 DLink router, btw. 4 ports. not wireless. on that note, i was wondering...the 604 is one of the oldest in their router series. does that mean its a worse router than say...the D900? PLEASE RESPOND POSTE HASTE
DigeratiPrime Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 (edited) why do you have both nod32 and norton antivirus? The latter is crap and is probably conflicting with the other anti-virus causing the pc to crawl. thats my guess. please try uninstalling norton. Edited October 28, 2005 by DigeratiPrime
ripken204 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 what about any other comps? have you tried the others on your network? also try setting a static ip address.
LiquidSage Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 (edited) Set your computer's IP as static (don't forget the DNS's), uncheck 'Automatically Check Connection' in LAN Settings. Then, in the router's config settings, set the DMZ to be your computer's IP. If that work's, you have a port problem. Also, if you have a connection using (Username/Pswrd) / Proxy, make sure the info is entered correctly. Are other computers lagging as well?Dbl check your MTU values (as 1600 crashes some Providers connections) and be sure to have the latest firmware installed.Zone Alarm is nice, but can cause many problems.... Check to make sure that ZoneAlarm and your router are getting along. Do a Google search...you will pull many guides on how to set ZA to work properly while squeezing that last extra kb out of your connection.Lot's more to try, depending on how much more info you give and what specifically you have tried to narrow down the possible cause.
