franko_c Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 Hello,I have created a WinPE 2004 ISO image that I use to run some ADS capture and restore commands (using imgdeploy) and it works very well for capturing and restoring Windows 2003 images from a network share. However, I was also looking to backup and restore Linux systems from the same WinPE bootable ISO. Is this possible? Unfortunately when I try running the ADS image capture command ("imgdeploy /c /p \Device\Harddisk0\Partition1 \\Server\Share\MyImage.img") I immediately get an error "unknown partition type". Specifically, we have RedHat Linux 4.0 servers with EXT3 file system. When I run the DISKPART command from command line in WinPE, I see two partitions listed on my Linux server (with the Partition 1 listed as "Unknown", which I assume is the /BOOT partition). I was wondering if there is any way to snap an image of the server using ADS (or some other 3rd party utility) from a WinPE CD? I would also need to be able to restore the same image as well.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
jaclaz Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 Cannot say if it helps, but latest (8.00) version of Winimage supports reading EXTFS 2 and 3 partitions:www.winimage.comIf you have a Linux EXT2FS or EXT3FS partition, and run Windows NT4/2000/XP/2003 server, you can connect this partition in read only mode with ?File Connect Linux drive??. You need Administrative right to use this feature.jaclaz
