Daemonforce Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 (edited) I know this probably doesn't belong here, but how do you go about manually updating the driver.cab located in the Windows XP distribution? It's pretty high compressing...I take one look at that thing and shidang that's a 1GB+ archive in a 73MB file. For those of you that care...I just want to update the bootscreens. =/I'm sure this is the same process seen from Win2K to Longhorn. RyanVM Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 The easiest way for someone who doesn't know what they're doing is to extract it with a program like WinRAR or PowerArchiver, update the files, then recompress it with maximum compression with PowerArchiver.
Daemonforce Posted October 16, 2005 Author Posted October 16, 2005 (edited) So I'm going to have to find some program called PowerArchiver to make a CAB? =/I know what I'm doing, I just don't see how the hell CAB files are manufactured. If I can't find this program, I guess I'm probably better off grabbing my XP SP1 image, extracting the whole SP2 archive and editing the entries that overwrite the bootscreen before integrating. What a mess.... Edited October 16, 2005 by Daemonforce
RyanVM Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 (edited) Are you Google-challenged or something? And CAB files are made just like any other archives (RAR, Zip, 7zip, etc) Edited October 16, 2005 by RyanVM
Daemonforce Posted October 16, 2005 Author Posted October 16, 2005 (edited) Are you Google-challenged or something?Kekekekekekekeke! The challenge is bandwidth, and a mirror that likes to cut the program.**** And CAB files are made just like any other archives (RAR, Zip, 7zip, etc)*looks at 73MB archive* o_O*looks at 1.3GB extraction* O_OPwned gee gee kay thanx no re.....x_X'.................................Nice avatar. =/ Edited October 16, 2005 by Daemonforce

Daemonforce Posted October 17, 2005 Author Posted October 17, 2005 (edited) I just made a solid archive with PowerArchiver...Q. How do I make a CAB file?A. Open a Command Prompt in the directory that has the files you want to put into a CAB.Type cabarc N nameofcab.cab *.* (this will put everything into the CAB file!).......................................CabArc FTW! I didn't want to go through the annoying process of extracting everything and moving a lot of stuff around for testing, but I guess this works better. Edited October 17, 2005 by Daemonforce
