gamehead200 Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 OK, I just got a new Maxtor 40GB ATA133 @ 7200RPMs...Whenever I put it in my computer, it tries detecting it as soon as the computer boots, but never finds it...I set the jumper from Cable Select to Master and still the same problem...Is this HD backwards compatible with ATA100 (I think its ATA100, correct me if I'm wrong)?//edit: I'm thinking I need a BIOS upgrade...If anyone finds anything with the following, please let me know:BIOS Date: 07/31/98BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PGBIOS ID: 07/31/1998-i440BX-W977TF-2A69KQ19CBIOS Eval: P6I440BX/B1 BIOS V1.2SL Jul.31,1998Chipset: Intel 440BX/ZX rev 3Superio: Winbond 977TF rev 0 found at port 3F0h
zivan56 Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 The Intel 440BX chipset had lots of problem with compatibility, somtimes it ever required "special" ram modules for it.
gamehead200 Posted April 4, 2003 Author Posted April 4, 2003 OK, but can someone find me a BIOS update?
Aaron Posted April 5, 2003 Posted April 5, 2003 Find out your mobo model (usually on your manual, or open up the case and look inside for any numbering)Then look it up on the mobo manufacturer site.
gamehead200 Posted April 5, 2003 Author Posted April 5, 2003 My mobo is a QDI P6I440BX/B1 BRILLIANT-I...Been trying to look for a BIOS update, posted something in their forums and now waiting...
DaveH Posted April 5, 2003 Posted April 5, 2003 There is alot of problems as previous stated with the "BX" or Bitched X as we call them here. Your best resource is probably to either contact your manufacturer or OEM and ask them. Also please try to check-out http://www.bxboards.com they are a good resource for BXboards and their chips.
gamehead200 Posted April 5, 2003 Author Posted April 5, 2003 After searching for about 5 hours, I finally found the update and it detected my HD! Yay! w00t w00t Now I'm gonna install my beta kit...
