gheron Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 (edited) Hi, Was wondering if anybody could help. I am usually quite good with computer problems, and a mate brought in an 80Gb disk that has suddenly stopped working.I managed to get the disk set up as a slave, and it has 2 partitions on it, but in MyComputer when I try to access partitions, I get the message that the disk must be formatted.I used Run--->MMC and added the disk management snap-in, and noticed that the partitions have no filesystem, it is in raw format. Does this mean that data is lost, or can I recover it? Also tried CHKDSK, SCANDISK and gave partition magic a go, but nothing recognises the disk.Cheers Edited September 28, 2005 by gheron
big poppa pump Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 It basically means the parition table is screwed up on that hard disk. You need to use some recovery program to rebuild the partition table and get acess to the partitions.
gheron Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 Ok cheers, al have a look for a partition recovery tool. I thought partition magic might do it, but when i run it, i get the message that the drive has 2 different geometerys, and then partition magic closes.Just found TestDisk dos utility, will have a go with it.
