shutdown by hand

Featured Replies

when i want to shotdown my windows xp computer i have to do it by hand. it does nog shutdown automatic. can somebody help me?

If I'm understanding you correctly, when you goto Start > Shut Down your computer doesn't turn off and you have to hold the power button till it kills it? I have had this happen a few times before, I just cleaned up everything, deleted temp files, ad-aware, crap cleaner, SFC /scannow and a defrag restarted and I was good to go.

it does nog shutdown automatic. can somebody help me?

I think, if you switch BIOS Setup parametrs on default it does automatic shutdown.

(I must know, BIOS support ACPI and power`s management or not? Info about MoBo, please :))

Try this in a .reg-file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\]
"PowerdownAfterShutdown"="1"

If it doesn't work after a reboot try removing all devices with "ACPI" in the name in device manager, then reboot and try shutting down again. Then make sure that what's under "Computer" in device manager is "ACPI PC" or similar, otherwise change it.

Also. If this value="1".

Sometimes incorrect drivers prevents to make shutdown PC. If in clear system (after installing) all was okey, try uninstalling some device with uninstalling drivers.

Also it`s okey, if you tell us, that non-MS serviñes running in your system.

(Some years ago, mouse`s driver from Genius in my WinMe prevented shutdown PC)

As Elektrik wrote updating some driver(s) is another possible solution to your problem, forgot to mention that.
