Jose Sigafus Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 I need help. I installed XP+SP2 ( blanked the drive of ME & reformatted NTFS) on my daughter's computer who lives 600 miles away. I put in a NIC card so I could get on the internet for Dell drivers; activation and anti-virus updates. She ONLY has a winmodem for dialup connection thru phone line. The Network Connection Wizard will not allow a Dial-Up connection, just Broardband. She uninstalled the NIC & modem in device manager, shutdown & removed both cards; reinstalled the dialup modem, which is found in device manager and says it's working with the same results. Add a new network connection will NOT allow a dialup connection. Tried a new modem with same results. Any ideas before I have her do a complete XP Repair from her CD???
Jose Sigafus Posted September 3, 2005 Author Posted September 3, 2005 The only service disabled since installation was Windows Firewall because I like Sygate. Using any form of network connection wizard to select "Connect using a dial-up modem" can't be selected---period. It's stuck on Broadband Connection only. Her ISP is thru her company (NO CD) and her has all of the info from them to manually install but can't enter thr info. Her ISP has NO idea what to do for her! Under Control Panel>Network Connections is blank.
warrior1109 Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Have you tried using the "create a new connection" wizard in network connections, that will allow you to input all the relevant dial up info and create the connection you need.
Jose Sigafus Posted September 3, 2005 Author Posted September 3, 2005 warrior1109: Yes we have and we can't change the selection from Broadband to a Dial-up connection thru a Modem. It won't uncheck Broadband.
Asin Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 When you go to Start > Control Panel > Phone and Modem Options, is there a profile set up (that is, location, area code, tone/pulse dialing, etc...)?
Jose Sigafus Posted September 4, 2005 Author Posted September 4, 2005 Asin: Thanks very much; I think this may solve the problem, but I won't know until sunday. I think they got so frustrated that they went to a bar for a FEW "Adult Beverages" and don't answer the phone. I've been running systems since 1999, but have never had a dial-up phone connection-just Cable. I will answer later if they call and arn't too wasted!
agonified Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 I am currently working as a helpdesk operator in an ISP for dial-up connection. We also encounter this problem sometimes and we are not able to solve it. Generally restart works, but, when restart fails, we recommend re-install the tcp/ip. Since the costumer does not recall us, we suppose that installing tcp/ip components from add/remove programs works.. Please post your result here we can learn the solution.
Jose Sigafus Posted September 5, 2005 Author Posted September 5, 2005 I'll have to wait awhile for a final solution to this as they left for Houston saturday to help down there.
Jose Sigafus Posted September 6, 2005 Author Posted September 6, 2005 SOLVED: My son went over with all of my instructions from the forums and myself. Removed both the modum and Nic card and drivers. Did a system restore prior to my installing the Nic card; uninstalled TCP/IP and reinstalled; put in a new modem; put dial info in Control Panel> Phone and Modem setup; Setup a Network Connection and it works. Unfortunately he did all of this at one time, so we don't know which deed fixed the problem. But I thank everyone for their help!
