So I want my Docs & Settings to be on a specific partition, in this case d:, during the use of a windows install the partitions get moved around so that when I go to install again D: is no longer D:.....

So is it possible to use some sort of Device ID /Unique ID instead of a random drive letter that keeps changing?

Thanks :)

You could use a bacthfile with diskpart to reassign the letter D to the partition. diskpart uses IDs which only depend on the location on the HDD, so partition 1 is the primary and partition 3,4,5.. are the first, second, third,... logical partition.

Where and when (cmdlines.txt, RunOnceEx, etc.?) can you use diskpart during an unattended install? In the WINNT.SIF file, I'm guessing that I need to add the following line in the [GuiUnattended] section:

ProfilesDir="P:\Profiles"

But, when does this ProfilesDir become a part of the system? And can I run diskpart to assign the drive letter before Windows creates ProfilesDir?
