Internet Explorer vs. other browsers?

I don't know if this a thread somewhere, but what do y'all think is the best web browser? I have IE, it's a **** resource hog (for my old ca. 2000 Dell laptop), of course the security problems, etc. I know Mozilla is popular, I don't know about Netscape, what about Opera, Avant, etc.

Secondly, my wife and I have tons of bookmarks (favorites) in IE; are these transferable to the other programs?
