gold2040 Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 HiI've been having a problem reinstalling Windows Media Player 7.1. I'm not using Media Player 9 as I don't care about a flashy design. I just want Media PlayerWhen it's installing and it comes to registering the components it comes up with this error messageSETUP_WM caused a stack fault in module QUARTZ.DLL at 016f:355601f5.Registers:EAX=019720c8 CS=016f EIP=355601f5 EFLGS=00010206EBX=019724fc SS=0177 ESP=01971ea0 EBP=019720b0ECX=019722d4 DS=0177 ESI=00000000 FS=4967EDX=3556024c ES=0177 EDI=bfe82188 GS=28eeBytes at CS:EIP:53 56 57 68 3f 00 0f 00 ff 75 08 8b d9 ff 33 33 Stack dump:00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000Could someone help shed some light on this problemAny help would be greatly apprechiatedgold2040
gold2040 Posted August 31, 2005 Author Posted August 31, 2005 The same error also happens if I try to install Windows Media Player 9 as well
gold2040 Posted August 31, 2005 Author Posted August 31, 2005 The same error happens when I try to install codec's as well
boooggy Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 sorry to say this but u need a clean install....
boooggy Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 yeppand why i say it : cause some files from system directory were replaced by files that are older or not signed by m$ and this files will keep give u errors. so a clean install would be my option...better do it with win2k if u have it....
gold2040 Posted August 31, 2005 Author Posted August 31, 2005 boooggy, do you know of any other possible way's of fixing this error such as replacing the quartz.dll with the latest version or something else. If not then it looks as if I will have to do it the hard old fashioned way
boooggy Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 u can replace quartz.dll but u have to look after the version from the win98cd.....
gold2040 Posted August 31, 2005 Author Posted August 31, 2005 I've found the quartz.dll file from my original win 98 cd. Is it just a matter of copying and overwriting the file inside the system directory
boooggy Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 but does it work now???just beeing curious..........
