:( XP prof w SP2 not exactly legit. Installed 2 months now. Athlon 2600+ on Asus 8nx7 delux MB. Nvidia g 440 graphics. Dual boot OS (XO+win98) 2 HD well partitioned.

Boot into 98 OK. XP boot

3sec to run Bios

6sec to run windows XP blue scroll screen

5MINUTES Black/grey screen ... yes 5 minutes

1 minute welcome screen

1 minute from wallpaper to curser ready state.

5 minutes between XP scroll and welcome screen .. must be a world record. So please help:

What is happening during the black screen boot time?

I have removed all virus threats, worms etc and Defragged OS drives. Removed any surplus installed software. What can I do to prevent this huge delay? Can I monitor what goes on within PC during the different bootphases?

Please please help, I cannot bear another OS install.

Regards

well when was the last time that you reinstalled xp? google for bootvis and find a guide for it too. it should help alot, also go to run and type in msconfig, then look at the startup programs and uncheck the ones that you dont need.
