I have Windows 2000 Pro with Service Pack 2. I did not archive the needed files to uninstall, and now I want Service Pack 4. I will archive the files to uninstall Service Pack 4, if need be; however, will installing Service Pack 4 be problematic since I can't uninstall Service Pack 2.

The reason I need to do this is because I'm trying to install some drivers/software for my RCA mp3 player, but it states I need Windows updates to proceed. I went to windowsupdates.microsoft.com and got all of the updates, except for the Service 4 install update. I tried to install the software and drivers again, but I get the same error message stating to get windows updates, so I'm hoping Service Pack 4 will solve my issues.

you should not have a problem updating.. the service packs are cumulitive and contain all the files necessary to complete the update.. when you choose do not back up files ... that only means that you can not roll back from SP2 back to SP1 or no SP. It holds no problems with going forward with service packs... only backwards.

Also.. I would try to make it a point to install hotfixes and definately Service Packs. Still running a Win2k computer at SP2 means your computer is at a great risk of being exploited.
