OK, so I was installing an old hard drive into my aunt's computer and this is what I the wires looked like after installing it:

------[CD-ROM](Secondary Master)

------[OLD HD] (Secondary Slave)

[MOBO]

------[XP HD](Primary Master)

------[AVAILABLE IDE CABLE] (Primary Slave)

[MOBO]

Can someone tell me why it didn't work this way? After switching where the OLD HD to the AVAILABLE IDE CABLE, it worked...

You can't run a hard drive off of a cd rom as a slave or otherwise.HD to HD primary master to secondary master.Cd Rom secondary master to CdRw(or cdrom)secondary slave.

After eating supper the other night, that's what I thought the problem was, after about an hour of trying to figure out why it wasn't working...I had to re-arrange the order of the HDs in the case since I had to have the slave on top of the master for it to be connected properly...
