sims 2 university problem

i just got the expansion for the sims 2 and when i go to play it, the splash screen comes up but nothing happens, a few min later i get the error in the pic

could it be a ram problem? i ran memtest a few times and nothing came up, im gunna run it overnight to see if anything might come up

this is the sims 2 support site and this link is for if the game freezes at the 1st splash screen like what is happening to me, the only thing is that i have everything updated and when i didnt have the expansion everything worked fine

and now for the heck of it i just tried one of the mini images from gamecopyworld and the game works fine, maybe my disc is somehow screwed up or my drive cant read it right?
