Heartofgold Posted July 21, 2005 Author Posted July 21, 2005 when my friend brought the computer from the store. There was no SP1 or SP2 installed on it. There was only Norton Systemworks 2005. He had no protection at all. He got rid of systemworks himself. I added AVG antivirus and also Zonealarm. But whenever you start the computer and logg in this warning comes up about spyware and you have to downlaod their program, Antivirus Gold in order to get rid of it.He's running Win XP Professional
techniquefreak Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 (edited) I had a similar problem once - I would advice you to do in the following order:1. try ad-aware SE first - download from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ Install - do a full system scan - clean what you find with a FULL system scan - and reboot ...2. - followed by a cleaning with spybot S&D download here http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html -Install - clean (full system scan) - restart3. And lastly Spysweeper (just get the trial) here http://www.webroot.com/downloads/sweep the system with a full scan and clean - and restart -*edit Oh - and remember to log on as admin when doing the installing and cleaning otherwise you won't get anywhere ...*If you like you can uninstall ad-aware SE and the rest when done - Hope this helps ...
