Platform - IBM thinkpad R50 with WINXP SP2

I dont know what happened but after login I have found that some typing on the alpha keys return a numeric vale.

Practically:

typing 'i' return '5'

typing 'J' return '1'

typing 'k' return '2'

typing 'l' return '3'

typing 'm' return '0'

typing 'o' return '6'

typing 'p' return '*'

typing 'w' return '4'

The KB is OK and when I log in as another user I do not have the problem

It looks like sonthing in the setting went wrong, but what????

have you done some registry tweaking or anything else?

It's an IBM... have you checked the Keyboard and Mouse settings (the IBM ones) to see if the "Fn" key is on by default?

It sounds to me like you're getting the "numpad" enabled on your keyboard laptop (look for blue numbers on the keys).

So what if it's a IBM? You can still apply registry tweaks to it

IBM does pretty much everything themselves. They only rely on Windows to interface with software - anything hardware setting related is taken care of by their drivers and software. My guess is that somewhere an IBM setting was changed to lock the Fn key down.

I know, I own a Thinkpad R40, but that isn't the point. The point is that perhaps, he did some registry tweaks himself or changed the installation perhaps. How should I know? That's why I ask.

sounds like you have enabled the numpad on your ThinkPads Keyboard. Normally you can enable/disable this behavior by pressing Fn-Num or a similar key combination. check your manual on how to do this on your model.

Do you have any special applications running when logging in with the user who has this problem? I have the same problem for example when starting the NetOp Remote Access Software on my laptop.
