i have just downloaded and tried out the new WinUHA RC1 to compare it against WinRAR and i am amazed at the results.

56.1MB unpacked size

WinRAR Maximum Compression 17.6MB total

WinUHA Maximum Compression 11.3MB total

need i say more

might be useful as a good alternative if u really want to cram stuff in to small spaces

I agree with ScubaSteve - WinUHA really shrinks stuff...

But at what TIME cost?

WinUHA is slower than WinRAR at both compression and decompression.

I wonder if we'll see similar features in the next WinRAR, my archiver of choice (having switched from WinZip some time ago).

ScubaSteve, please share your working times for the above ref'd process.

working times. this is using a PIII 450 so dont expect great results.

the details in the first post are slightly off. here ar the correct ones,
