BizTalk Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 I have 10 computers that already have xp sp1 on them and i want to install sp2 but with the firewall turned off. How can i do that?
m8rk Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 On 10 machines it isn't really too much trouble to turn off the firewall on each machine On a network with 2003 server/2000 server with current .adm's - you can specify firewall settings for the machines using group policy.
BizTalk Posted June 12, 2005 Author Posted June 12, 2005 I have 2 servers running 2000 server sp4. I looked on the group policy i don't see any setting for the firewall. where is it? and how can i get it?
BrandonS_Mil Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 SP2 Firewall is only customizable thru 2003 Serveror alternatively you can make a new slipsteamed sp2 xp disk with the firewall settings in your winnt.sif file, and tell it to do a repair install....i have personnaly done this and it works...Hope this helps
m8rk Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 (edited) You need to install this admin pack on a WinXP machine: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en...to run gpmanager from the workstation, giving you all the additional controls of Win2003 server.Read here for more insight: http://www.petri.co.il/administer_windows_..._windows_xp.htmYou DON'T need 2003 Server as stated above. I do it currently on my network. Edited June 12, 2005 by m8rk
tarquel Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 (edited) agreed but...also, make sure u update the 2k server's adm's with the SP2 versions and install the latest GPMC on the client machines (this version of GPMC doesn't support installing on 2k unfortunately) along with the adminpak m8rk mentions. You can get the GPMC here:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=enRegards,N(PS. nice to see u here m8rk ) Edited June 12, 2005 by it_ybd
