Inaccessible boot device

Recommended Posts

my current problem is that I have a gateway 4300 with W2K loaded on it ....

If I do a cold boot on it the computer boots to an Inaccessible Boot Device error ...

I had same problem with a gateway 4100 and 4000 and I made a boot disk that ran CHKDSK and it would resolve the problem but not with this 4300

I was thinking of trying to us gdisk or fixmbr to recover this ....

anyone with any other ideas?

just a side note .... this is not a virus or anything .... it happens with all of these Gateway E Series

Thank you for your ideas and help

Get a new hard drive, then ghost the one with the probelm to the new one, if it successfully ghosts the problem is normally solved. If it won't ghost, install drive in another machine as a secondary drive recover any data if possible and then reload new drive. I see this alot on laptops and their drives are normally starting to fail.

Thank you all for your info ..... figured out that a piece of software was causing the gdisk, ntfschk, fixmbr, fdisk /mbr ...... not to recover the drive .... got to hate software developers that dont test everything out ....
