Xp Installation over a network

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I have a pc running Windows Xp Sp2 and i have a laptop that has mandrake 10.1.

My question is: Is their a way i can install xp onto my laptop through the nic card. On my laptop my cd drive isn't working at the moments. So a physical installation is out of the question. I have a boot cd that run from an external cdrom drive on my laptop that lets me configure a network share between the two computers.

If i'm not making sense let me know.

It would be prudent to add the drivers for your nic to the installation folder.

[Edit] This forum seem to screw up my link so it doesn't work.

What do you mean add the nic drives to the installation folder. Are you referring to creating a self installation cd.

My laptop for some reason has trouble detecting the exernal cdrom drive. It will boot the cd but when it comes to loading the software from the cd, all of the sudden the cdrom drive isn't seen. It doesn't make sence. Its a memorex drive.

So my only option is to thru the nic card.

I know that you can setup a CA deploy server to fulfill your requests.

However, it doesn't worth to do so.

What do you mean add the nic drives to the installation folder.

Download the latest drivers for the laptops nic & extract the .INF .SYS & .CAT files and put them in the I386 folder that was copied from the cd, as instructed in the link above.

Are you referring to creating a self installation cd.

No, just adding necessary drivers.

I don't know about the drive problem though.
