windows update problem.

I have my auto update turned on but after it downloaded microsoft windows installer 3.1 it asks me to install it.Whether I click express install or custom install it says installation failed and after a few seconds it will pop up again for installation but everytime it fails.So now what should I do??How can I remove it from this place so that it is completely removed??

No,even restarting doesnot do anything, whatever I do it doesnot install and always appears in the task tray for installation which will again fail.

go here (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=893803) and download the redistributable file from the desktop your having problems with and see if it will install from the download.
