upgrading to 2000

Hi, I'm running windows 98 se on a micron pentium 2 computer. I got a windows 2000 pro cd from a friend and was trying to install and got an error "cd did not come with computer" and exits me out. The cd is for hp workstations operating system cd W2K/SP2. My question is there a way to install this os on my micron computer and if there is could someone kindly explain how.

If I recall correctly, legal matters put aside, you cannot.

The CD detects that the PC is NOT an HP one.

And there is no winnt.exe or winnt32.exe in the \i386 directory

The HP OEM one sucks anyways, thus if you don't require access to a camera that you have, you can try Linux. As long as you don't have a software modem, you shall be fine!
