is there any way to use a browser as an OS? like when i boot my computer, it'll open up firefox and start working without having windows installed?

this is mainly for a very old computer that has no use other than for web surfing.

No, you need an OS to run a browser. For an old machine use win98, or if you don't have windows use a "light" linux distro like PuppyLinux
