RIS doesnt always work

Featured Replies

Hey,

i am just wondering if anyone else is having these problems, and has a solution?

When i run the RIS it installs, however it sometimes does not autologon, but it is set in the SIF

[GuiUnattended]
   AutoLogon=Yes
   AutoLogonCount=1

this happens maybe 5% of the time, of machines that are re-ris, which means they were preveously RIS, and now again, so the computer account already exists.

also the second problem is that it doesnt always want to join to the domain, BUT i think this may be to do with the account already existing in the domain. once logged in i can easily join it, it just doesnt want to join during the RIS

Thanks for your help, it is much apreciated!!!!!

When adding a computer to the domain which already exists in the domain, you have to remove it before re-adding it, I think it's the same as you can't have two exactly the same user account or mailboxes.

Correct me if I am wrong

hmmm so how would i do that?

the reason it is already there is because you add the computer with the GUID so when the RIS is run it detects the computer name.

any ideas?

thanks

If you are using a machine name then you need to change it to %MACHINENAME%. As this will create problems - thus the machine has its own account.

also when creating from a flat image you need to make sure that the password is blank "*"!

Hope this helps

There is something odd about the drivers as I am sure that you cannot have that many.

but if it works then...hey.....

ok i see it is a flat image. you need to have a blank password for this to work before you can rip prep it. that maybe both

[GuiUnattended]  AdminPassword="**************"

Rip Prep is the way to go after this as it only takes 5 - 10mins on a basic install of Windows.
