AutoIt and dropdown

How do i make an autoit script that selects a certain item from a dropdown, rather then set focus on dropdownlist and send DOWN DOWN ENTER etc?

I usually do this by given the dropdown box the focus and then 'type' the first few letters of the item I want selected (enough letters to uniquely identify the item).
