phillyman2004 Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 Building my lil sister a computer , I have built arould 5 other computers, but most were for me and i went with the top of the lineCurrently she uses a Celeron 500mhz HP with 384 ram and a 60 gig harddrive I am building her a 3.4 Pentium 4 HT socket 775 , with 512 ddr2she most likely will never have more then 1 harddrive and 1 DVD-RW in the system , and her Videocard will most likely be a PCI card , not expressWhat can i get away with in terms of Powersupplys for her ?Here is her Motherboard (INTEL BOXD915PBLL Socket T (LGA 775))Here is her Processor (intel Pentium 4 550 800MHz FSB LGA 775 )I got them both Brand new for $100 Also do you recommend going with a Case that has a powersupply bundled with it , Or buy the case and powersupply seperate ??I just dont know how a unknown brand of powersupply will hold up , I always use antec 480+
ripken204 Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 i would prolly go with the bundle, considering the "crappy" parts u will be putting in there except for the processor
phillyman2004 Posted May 12, 2005 Author Posted May 12, 2005 i would prolly go with the bundle, considering the "crappy" parts u will be putting in there except for the processor<{POST_SNAPBACK}>ah not so much crappy parts....The motherboard is niceThe processor is niceshe will get 512 of Crucial DDR2A PCI Videocard , since she doesnt do videogamesThe 60 gig harddrive out of the HP , again she doesnt need alotIntegrated HD sound5.1 Logitech SpeakersDVD or CD burner , probably a NEC or LiteonIntegrated NICStandard Floppyand a Standard Case, Maybe something with a window ?I just dont wanna go OVERKILL , since she is just doing Internet and burning music, Now me on the otherhand , I have 7 harddrives ....over a Terabyte of Info...lol
tarquel Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 cant really go wrong with one of the cheaper Antec cases (that come with a psu). There are cheaper still but it'll do the job nicely.Take a look at http://www.antec.com/us/pro_en_solution.html although I'm afraid I cant say the US prices, you wont have to spend the earth and at least you wont have to worry about the quality of the PSU for the task at hand Hope it helps.P.S. Just be sure to choose one that is big enough for the motherboard to fit in hehe and if you think that this is a 'over-the-top' choice, even the most basic of machines need a good solid psu behind then Regards,N.
dman Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Hi Philly Neighbor,A 350 W Pwr. supply should be plenty for that box. The bundle is the way to go. I get mine at tigerdirect. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Ca...lc.asp?CatId=32check out the powermax case. $28 and includes supply, can't beat that.
phillyman2004 Posted May 12, 2005 Author Posted May 12, 2005 possibly the antec neopower 480?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>LMAO...The Neo Power 480 is what i have in my computer , No way does she need that much power , and i am running 3 dvd burners and 4 harddrivesRob
tarquel Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 The Neo Power 480 would be an overkill lolGo for the solution series (as youre already familiar with Antec) and you wont be disappointed.Regards,Nath.
