Is there a way to change the default startup display from 640 x 480 ?

I mean the screen resolution user gets after post-install first logon ?

I used ResSwitch (from http://www.naughter.com/qres.html) inside

RunOnceEx entry, but it reported failure (something like "display driver failed").

I even tried to manually set resolution to 1024x768 and then let ResSwitch

(after including it in RunOnceEx and rebooting) downgrade it to 800 x 600,

and it still fails.

NOTE WELL : i'm testing the cd inside VMWare Workstation ! This may very well

work on a real machine ...

The only way i see is to unpack and hack the original files inside I386 folder.

One more thing : i took the new cabarc.exe from RyanVM update pack and

re-packed the orignal CAB files in I386, gaining about 9 MB of free space on CD.

Original cabarc (one from "untouched" xp cd) has no LZX compression and it

won't suffice for this.

uuummm... I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but assuming your drivers are all installed correctly for your video card, it should set the default resolution for the first boot. Just put the following in your winnt.sif file.

[Display]
	Xresolution = 1280
	Yresolution = 1024
	BitsPerPel = 16
	Vrefresh = 85

Thanks ! I really never tried to fully understand consequences of testing inside VM.

UPDATE : yesterday i prepared one smaller hdd and tried it. Install took much

longer than in VM. Most likely win setup found hardware to install drivers for,

so the whole process has been prolonged (and also the physcal cdrom is

slower than ISO image or VCD).

I guess VM emulates a bare-bone system, so there's not much for setup to do

(this is why i was surprised how fast win installs on VM).

I am trying to do exactly the same as you in that I need to change the installation resolution from 640x480 up to a minimum of 800x600 so that an IBM application will install silently during the unattended install.

Did you succeed in changing the unattended install display resolution that is used 'During' the build phase?
