Hewwo!

Thought I'd let you guys know of an awesome game I've recently found myself addicted to, if you go over to http://www.ogame.org/ , you can sign up and join a free web based game. The idea surrounding the game is simple, because I've just copied and pasted from the site

OGame is a strategic space simulation game with thousands of players competing with each other simultaneously. All you need to play is a standard web browser.

What is OGame about?

As an intergalactic emperor you have the possibility to strengthen your influence throughout the galaxies by numerous strategies. Beginning your rulership at your homeworld you begin to build an economic and military infrastructure with your resources. Researching new techniques and upgrading your buildings and researches gives you access to superior technologies and improved weapon systems. During the game you have the option to colonize planets and to create alliances together with friendly emperors. Trading with other players and fighting against enemy empires helps you to get the resources you need to prosper even more quickly."

So, its kinda like a web based command and conquer if you will, but on a much larger scale. I think you can still sign up to play in Universe 4 atm (where I'm currently playing), if not, then Uni 5 will soon be open to blitz.

The game is very addictive, from the first day you start you'll find yourself building and upgrading your mines, synthesizers and power plants to try and pile up as many resources as you possibly can. You'll then have to think about what route youre gonna take to play the game. You can either try and find an alliance to join and play the game together with friends (and potential backup for if you have any problems), or you can go it lone ranger, slowly taking over solar systems, then galaxies and if youre good enough, even the whole Universe!

You're gonna have to think about whether you wanna start building defences for your planet, or risk keeping those resources open to all while you build away at other things. Or, you can get defences up and start building your own fleets of spaceships, and when you're ready, go to attack or even declare full scale wars on other players in hope of taking over their planets or stealing as many of their resources as possible.

The whole thing is about power, theres still a load more crap about the game you gotta discover for yourself, but hey, http://www.ogame.org/ , sign up today, and prepare to lose some of your social life

this sounds extremely similar to another space-type online game http://www.planetarion.com/

i havent played this in a a while (currently at round 13 - i remember playing it when it was round 4 through 7, so its been a looong while) but it involved galaxies of planets mining resources and attacking other galaxies to steal their mining asteroids.

it works as a turn-based hourly 'click' type thing (very descriptive ain't it?) and its a LOT larger and more popular than i remember it.

seeing Ogame has reminded me of what i missed in planetarion i may have to join up with both if i get the spare time to waste.

Yeah the concept surrounding the game is similar to alot of games out there, web based or otherwise but is pulled off extremely well IMO.
