Skywalker Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Hi,I have a strange problem. I can't get windows to understand that I want to open all folders in the same window. I have tried everything, but it keeps opening new windows on every disk or folder I open.Any ideas?Thanx in advance!
enuffsaid Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Double click my Computer > Tools > Folder Options > General (tab) > Under Browse Folder select Open each folder in the same windows
Skywalker Posted May 2, 2005 Author Posted May 2, 2005 That's the normal way to adjust this. But I tried that already and it doesn't work for me.
enuffsaid Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 It would help us if you told us WHAT you have tried, and not just "everything." Cos if you HAVE tried "everything," there's not much room for us to help you, is there?
HyperHacker Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Have you rebooted since then? And after doing so is the option still set to what you set it to?
KJxp Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 What does your "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder" key look like? Could you post a reg file?
Skywalker Posted May 3, 2005 Author Posted May 3, 2005 Hi,With I tried everything, I mean setting and resetting the default options in windows. Rebooting after that, setting them again, set it to "open all folders in seperate windows" and then change it back.Nothing seems to work. It's like the function does not exist anymore.I made an export of the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder" reg key.Folder.reg
KJxp Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 Delete the (default) value under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell
Skywalker Posted May 4, 2005 Author Posted May 4, 2005 Delete the (default) value under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I did what you suggested, but it didn't help. I deleted the default value and rebooten my machine. But the problem still exists.Thanx anyway!
KJxp Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 Which of these actions causes a new window? (make sure these are folders and not drives)- With an explorer window on the screen with the tree view on the left visible, selecting a folder from the tree- With the tree visible, double-clicking on a folder on the right pane- With the tree visible, right-clicking on a folder on the right pane and selecting "Open"- With the tree visible, right-clicking on a folder on the right pane and selecting "Explore"- With the tree NOT visible, double-clicking on a folder on the right pane- With the tree NOT visible, right-clicking on a folder on the right pane and selecting "Open"- With the tree NOT visible, right-clicking on a folder on the right pane and selecting "Explore"And I guess I should ask... What version of Windows are you using?
KJxp Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 (edited) Under Tools > Folder Options > View, do you have "Launch folder windows in a separate process" checked or not?Check here (everybody seems to have their own solution):http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1035471916http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_...Q_20648703.html Edited May 4, 2005 by KJxp
Badforyou2000 Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 Type this in the Command Prompt and your Folder should work correctly.REG DELETE "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell" /va
KJxp Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 @Badforyou2000What do you think that is going to do?On mine, it breaks folders completely!
