Windows XP - Administrator problems

for some reason my machine erased the users and now has me operating as the administrator. i have created additional users however certain programs still seem to be looking for administrator and the administrator still shows up as a user. I was told it was not a good idea to run machine all the time as administrator - to easy to corrupt, however if I don't the machine doesn't seem to work correctly any more/?

I would appreciate any help.

u cannot lose administrator account. so the only thing u can do is to hide it. so u create another user with administrative power. then right click my computer>advanced>user profiles settings. here it has to show u all users on your pc. choose administrator and then hit delete button. restart and that is it.

or you can disable theadmin account, can't you? it shouldnt work than any more... although i have to admit that im running winxpsp2 with an admin account and its stable and i have no probs regarding security. its easier to install new software when logged in as admin - its just lasziness!
