Hi,

I'm having a problem with my slipstreamed XPCD.

After installing Windows without any error, every time I plug in a new hardware (mostly USB devices) a window pops up and ask for the XPSP2 CD.

Most USB devices cant be detected and drivers for them aren't found (although it doesn't happen if I use the original CD - not slipstreamed).

Anyone knows what happens? Solution?

I use the newest hot fixes file from Ryan's website, and create boot CD with CDIMAGE GUI.

Thanks in advance.

post your winnt.sif and regtweaks

did u use nlite?

u did didn't u.

Yes, I did use nLite, but just to integrate the hot fixes.

My winnt.sif is nothing special, I just use the xp deployment tool to put in my username, company, product key and stuff... haven't add any registry tweak yet.

In short, I just integrate hot fixes w/ nLite, create unattended setup w/ deployment tool, and create boot CD w/ CDIMAGE GUI.

Let me guess - you removed duplicate files which existed in both driver.cab and i386 from driver.cab when you ran nLite.

No, I don't remove anything. I just used "Integrate hot fixes" in nLite and merge in your fixes file. I just started with the beginning steps from the guide on the home page, no further action that is not mentioned in the guide.

That sounds like it could be the windows file protection box asking you to insert the CD so it can overwrite your unrecognized files? If so then just press cancel. You can get rid of this message by switching off file protection.

Yeah, that's exactly the windows file protection box. I can press cancel but it appears everytime I plugin a new hardware, so annoying. Moreover, it doesn't happen when I use the original CD.

And how about the drivers for USB devices or other hardwares in general? It still can't detect the proper driver for most popular devices although I have checked the driver.cab is still there in windows folder.

I dont know

Anyway, your Unattended file obviously worked ok so its not really an Unattended problem - its an nlite related problem. You would have better luck asking this question in the nlite forum.

Never mind, I've figured it out.

I used nLite 0.99.8 while Ryan's files require 0.99.9 or newer. However, nLite 0.99.9 just lets me import hot fixes if there's an INF file. So I guess I'd better do it manually.

Thanks for all the replies.

What hotfixes are you trying to import in nLite that aren't in my pack?

Every hot fixes are in your pack.

I meant the new nLite doesn't let me import compressed archives, it requires INF files. So I just did it manually.

You mean it wont let you import Ryan's Hotfix Pack? It let me do it with no problems!

Do you use 0.99.9beta (the latest)?

When I choose Integrate hotfixes, the import wizard just lets me choose *.inf (the type of files box has only "Presets (*.inf)), so Ryan's pack doesn't appear in the list.

Oh crap :D:P This new version has this preset thing, it confuses me :P :P

I'm not gonna use it anyway, since someone has said nLite + your pack = hang
