svchost.exe taking up too much memory

for me, xp usually takes up about 50 megs of ram right after an install... but I just nlited a new cd to slim it down even more and it has jumped up to 80+ megs because of multiple svchosts running taking up 10+ ram apiece.

I know its a windows system process and that I need it and all that, but why is it suddenly doing this and is there any way I can scale it back?

services generally run svchost.exe but in some small cases viruses can emulate the process. Check what services your running and look them up against Blackvipers Service Guide to see details. I attached the pdf file below since his site is down atm.
