Disable F1

Featured Replies

A user has Windows Help or Office Help pop up randomly. I want to disable the F1 key to see if it's a malfunctioning key. Any idea how to do this?

put a keylogger in place to see if F1 is being sent to pc..

Don't want to put a keylogger on the machine for security purposes, it's a laptop as well so we can't just switch out the keyboard.

Found a registry key to disable it....

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]

"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,3b,00,00,00,00,00

get this a lot of the time in work, take out the keyboard and clean it well, make sure there's no crap under the F1 key or on the contact

what laptop make/model is it, someone might be able to help you with getting the keyboard out, there's usually some small catches along the edges of them!

The keyboard was just replaced on the laptop a couple of weeks ago so that "shouldn't" be fault, but you never know. We're going to disable the F1 key for a little while and see if that fixes it. Thanks for the help.
