  1. With SubinACL I am still getting errors. If I try to change the owner to domain\administrators or anything else then it gives an error about no security id for the folder. The folder doesn't even have an owner. Every other folder in the parent does except for this one. Unlocker could not delete it. When trying to rename it said it could not be done, but it could try once rebooting the machine. That is not a possibility for a week. It looks like a week from now this server will be rebooted. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. A user created the share on a file server. It is not a critical/system folder.
  2. I can't delete a folder on a Server 2000 machine...NTFS partition. The folder does not have a security tab. No matter what I do, I get an access denied error. I've tried using rd and rmdir to no avail. Going one folder up and replacing permissions on child objects gives an access is denied error as well. Since this machine is a file server, it cannot be rebooted during the day. I would rather not have to install the recovery console or try to remove the directory by safe mode or rebooting. Any ideas?
  3. Thanks, I appreciate the information.
  4. It's been my practice to not save anything in my C root directory. From what I've read in a few places, it's best to keep the clutter in folders. I think the logic was because when booting up, you don't want the machine sorting out a lot of junk to find the right files and making sure it doesn't need any other ones in there. Does this seem correct or nay? Is it the same for servers? Title Edited - Please follow new posting rules from now on. --Zxian
  5. How do you bookmark or make a favorite of a network share? Internet explorer automatically adds file:// at the beginning of any network address I input so it can't find it. I connect to our VPN and then browse to My Documents. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. In a corporate environment, when setting the power settings for hibernation, standby times, etc.....does changing these settings on one administrator account change all accounts that log in or does each user have to set their own individual power settings?
  7. I have a shared folder on my machine with read access for everyone. I accessed it from machine A earlier today. When I was done I closed the window, but the machines kept the tcp session connected for 2 hours. When I went back to work on another problem, machine A would not let me access that drive correctly. I could see everything perfectly fine, but could not edit a file, copy to the desktop, or anything. I could not map the drive b/c the drive was already in use and I need to terminate the session. How would you terminate that session to my machine from a remote location? I saw a connection using netstat so I know it's there. I do not want to walk back to my machine then walk back to machine A. Any ideas on a dos command or anything to kill one session. I'm just looking for a quick, simple way to kill one session. Thanks.

    Disable F1

The keyboard was just replaced on the laptop a couple of weeks ago so that "shouldn't" be fault, but you never know. We're going to disable the F1 key for a little while and see if that fixes it. Thanks for the help.

    Disable F1

Found a registry key to disable it.... [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout] "Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,3b,00,00,00,00,00

    Disable F1

Don't want to put a keylogger on the machine for security purposes, it's a laptop as well so we can't just switch out the keyboard.

    Disable F1

A user has Windows Help or Office Help pop up randomly. I want to disable the F1 key to see if it's a malfunctioning key. Any idea how to do this?

    exe problem

nevermind, it's fixed now. apparently a new windows update was installed and it screwed it up. i restarted (screen went crazy colors and wouldn't boot). turned it completely off, turned it on and it's working fine now. i have no idea what happened, but everything seems to be normal now.

    exe problem

any time i open any exe on my system i get the file download screen (open, save, cancel, more info). the system thinks i'm trying to download a file or some kind of strange file association is going on. it started after i installed smartftp, but i've never had a problem with it before...fresh install of xp sp1 from 3 days ago. any ideas what may be causing this?
  14. I get the following error during install... Setup cannot copy the file atapi.sys. Ensure that the location specified below is correct, or change it and insert "Windows XP System Files" in the drive you specify. Any ideas on what may be causing this?
  15. I'm trying to make a registry or batch file for a manual uninstall of norton antivirus corporate 8.x. The instructions say to remove any reference to specific keys, i did a search and i get 30+ so i don't want to copy and paste all of those. Is there any way to make a batch or reg entry that will go through the entire registry removing keys with a specific title?
