when it wants to download and install the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool, what does it do?

i made a searched on hdd to find what it downloaded, bu i found nothing.

What is Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool?

is it an exe or something else?

check the following folder. there will be 1(!!) new file for this tool. C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files

What it does, is check if you have a non-pirated (or copied) version of windows

I would not bother with it, it is purely there for the benifit of microsoft and not yours, therefore you would waste CD space adding it on when you could add something else.

The current product activation is full of holes because there are many people that have the same product key and if someone pirates it, microsoft finds out and stops all updates for windows XP with that CD key. this means that they disadvantage good users as well as the bad ones by doing it like this.

A lot more people and businesses would be affected by this new additional hoop everyone would have to jump through.
