  1. Thanks for that, I will try that tonight after I hop of the internet, as I am still on dial up. Edit: I tryied it last night and it had an error and did not shutdown. Don't worry about fixing it anyway, as I got my own batch file working. Sorry I forgot to notify you, but I did mention it in other posts and lost track of the posts I had asked help for about it. By the way if you want the batch file I will attach it.
  2. Doesnt the link I posted not work? Will check out. thanks
  3. I have finished testing, although I am not sure how to get around the password prompt on windows startup when it is finished deleting files when in DOS mode (I am trying to make it unattended batch file. The Batch file I have attached is made for windows 98 SE, not tested for all other operating systems. I just noticed I cannot upload the file here. ***curse*** I'll post link from another forum to see if that works for those that care about their privacy.
  4. Absolutely. trouble is I have to learn a new operating system.
  5. Sounds like you like lots of spam filling your inbox. Spyware will certainly help you out...spending your money that is.
  6. SiMoNsAyS: In the first post in the attachment you have:
  7. I am currently using a Western Digital, and I think that is also about to go on me, it is a 2gig drive and temporary. the reason I think that is when I perform a deltree command in DOS on a certan file, it sounds like it going from fast to slow and then speeds up again, although it is not doing that in windows. Do you think its on its last legs? Thanks for your help.
  8. <edited by un4given1> Just a little clean up... I think you might be right about having the quote box there. I'll take it out for you. <edited by un4given1> Just a little clean up... @daveybluenose: Sorry about all that political stuff, Did you get your problem fixed?
  9. Thanks, I got it fixed by having it change directory to the file location and then just put in the filename without location. Thanks for your help.
  10. I have been searching through my registry and found registry entries that have been loging the files I have opened and in what program. I have desided to do up a reg file and post on the internet to help other people get rid of these entries. The following reg file is made for windows 98 SE, not tested for all other operating systems. REGEDIT4 ;Reg entries I have found to be true which http://www.utdallas.edu/~jbs024000/articles/explorer_spy.html ;has mentioned [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StreamMRU] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RecentDocs] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\International\CpMRU] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist\{5E6AB780-7743-11CF-A12B-00AA004AE837}\Count] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist\{75048700-EF1F-11D0-9888-006097DEACF9}\Count] ;Reg entries I have found Myself. I have also made some batch files that will delete these files that expose your privacy and delete above mentioned registry entries, which you run it instead of going start\shutdown\etc. I have also got it to do a scandisk, scan registry, and defrag your harddrives, and then automaticly shutdown the computer when it is done. this is an unattended batch file. I have got it working, but I had just made some changes, so I wont post it until I have given it another test.
  11. Yeah those are the ones I don't want either, I think it may have something to do with how much you pay; If you pay more they generally make it better and last longer, I don't want to pay top price, so I went for the next best which is usually was at the top previously before the current top product. Thanks for your replies
  12. Hi all I am plaining to get a new harddrive soon, and I have picked out the seagate Baracuda ST3300831AS. (Seagate is my faveroute brand as I like the design more then speed, because I like them to last longer and all that) I am going to get it from http://www.abcd.com.au/Osiab/Asp/Frameset.asp (Fourth one from the bottem) What do you guys think? also I hear that if you put in the parrameters of the drive into the bios (instead of having auto) you might be able to get your data off. Do you think this is true? If that don't work I will just try out puting it in the freezer wrapped in plastic to see if that works See ya guys and thanks
  13. What OS do you want on the drive? What file system is on the drive? If it is NTFS then Windows ME won't be able to access it\reinstall on it. and make sure that all files you want to keep is backed up on a different drive or partition. Try making a boot up disk from your spare PC, as a Windows 98 or another ME boot disk from a different machine will work with windows ME but in a different way. One other thing, Make sure you are not making a boot up disk on a corupted floppy disk, because you will get errors garrenteed.
  14. Might have something to do with the name "Microsoft Software Forum Network". No body expects to find a Linux forum here maybe.
  15. I would like to suggest to admin to put in a Linux forum + sub forums to help with doing an unattended CD for Linux. Is this a good idea?
  16. Hi all I have come up against an unexpected problem, I have got a batch file that executes in DOS Mode to copy a file on my D drive to the Start menu\Programs\Startup directory. but it does not work, and I get an error "Bad filename or command". Here is part of my code: copy D:\Batfil~1\defrag.bat C:\WINDOWS\STARTM~1\Programs\StartUp\defrag.bat Is there a way to make msconfig start it instead? or am I overlooking something really obvious? Can someone please help me? Thank you!
  17. Thanks for that. I did find the site useful
  18. I have no more interest in continuing this aurgument. You can make beleive in what ever you wish.
  19. I am trying to do this as well. It really depends on how far you want to go with it. I am doing some batch scripts (they automate things for you) so I can put in to the Unattend cd so that when the computer is shut down it does scandisk and defrag etc... Back on topic... On your Win98 cd you have some tools that do not get installed with 98. The one you need to do this is D:\tools\reskit\batch\batch.exe Or to install Batch 98 (same thing) so that you don't need to get your cd out every time you want to use it. D:\tools\reskit\batch\setup.exe Any way you are best off going to http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t35589.html and most of your questons will be answered there. One suggestion though, Dont try to get it all done in the first go, Just do one bit at a time, so that if there is a problem, you know where to go to solve the problem.
  20. Thanks... Is there a way to boot to dos to perform this and another task and then shutdown (turn off) the computer? Thanks again.
  21. Hi all I am creating a batch file for when the user shuts down on a Windows 98 machine. I am geting an error: "You typed parrameters that are invalid for ScanDisk for Windows" start /wait c:\windows\Scandskw.exe /custom also tryed: start /wait c:\windows\Scandskw.exe and Scandisk /custom and Scandisk -custom and even that don't work. Could someone please help me here? thanks in addvance!!
  22. Thanks... I wanted to be able to execute it from the start menu and shutdown dialog box. is there a way of doing it like this? Thanks again.
