I have an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard and am using the built-in sound system.

During xmas I purchased a Logitech 5.1 speaker system.

Is there a way to have this speaker setup using my motherboard and have a microphone connected at the same time?

Maybe I misunderstand the question since the answer seems so simple. Is there not a Mic input on your MB?

mic has been standard for a longtime on mobo's (it is the red circle) i would just like to add....

1st don't be stingy on the quality of your mic even if you don't plan to use it often. if you use something like phone over the internet and esp. voice dictation / cmd software like Dragon Naturally Speaking then you really should be looking at high quality mic $75 and up. Putting out $20 on a mic is like getting the $50 car paint job deal. Everyone will notice!. Mic's are really one of those items where you get a good one, or just don't even bother with it.

2nd make sure you keep your speakers low / off and the rec volume a notch or 2 below max when recording. I also try to keep the mic line far from power cables as well.
