albator Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 TO be clear, I had install xp using my e: burner driver. I would like to set the default drive asking to f:, my dvd. That way I would let the xpcd-rom in the dvd for the PLEASE INSERT YOU WINDOWS XP_SPK1 cd request... Does it possible to change the default path ?
jeffshen Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 search the registry for any listing for i386 and if there is a drive letter in front of that, change it to your DVD drive, what you can do as well is copy the entire i386 folder from your windows XP cd onto your hard drive and get it to point to that location, that way you can put the cd away until you need to reinstall windows or something.J
bledd Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]"SourcePath"="C:\\I386"i think..change that to the letter you want..
albator Posted April 7, 2005 Author Posted April 7, 2005 Thank alot. But I will not copy the xpcd to my c: ! It will surely make my c: drive bust the 1 gig.bledd your suggestion did not work
tim Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 In this hive:HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SetupSet:SourcePath = X:\andServicePackSourcePath = X:\Where 'X' is the drive letter of your CD/DVD drive that you want to use.EDIT: Added this to help you:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup]"SourcePath"="X:\\""ServicePackSourcePath"="X:\\"
purewaveform Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 be carefull here. If the request is coming from system security then you will have to use the cd, and the hard drive copy wont work. so make sure that you set the source like mentioned above.
