Common Tasks Shown On Desktop

This friend of mine has a problem when the Common Tasks panel showed up on his desktop.

It's kinda annoying as it covers 1/4 of the desktop, and ruins the wallpaper

anyone know how to remedy this?

I searched the forums and googled it, but maybe I used the wrong search terms.

any help is much appreciated
